It’s Wednesday of Jen Week – and country music star Keith Urban is here! It just goes to show how much I must love my wife to go to the extreme length of devoting a full day to Keith, Jenny’s second love. Fact. I don’t like country music. Fact. I don’t like guys with long hair. Fact. It’ll be a long time before Mr Urban is next on A Track A Day, so make the most of it! One thing I didn’t know is that Keith Urban was born in New Zealand, and lived in Australia from an early age. The lyrics in this song just leave me speechless… actually, a lot of Keith Urban’s songs are like this, describing the everyday life of a country-singer. From putting on a pair of jeans, to losing money, I am at least supplied with an healthy supply of lyrical meaningless to debate with my wife when the inevitable Keith Urban album finds itself in the CD player on a long car ride.

“I pull on my jeans and I feel all right
I pull my blue jeans on, I pull my old blue jeans on
I pull my blue jeans on, I pull my old blue jeans on”

It should be noted that this is not one of my favorite Keith Urban songs either. I was drawn to him due to his rather unusual and funky use of the banjo in songs such as “Who Wouldn’t Wanna Be Me” and “Somebody Like You”, which I don’t think are extremely country sounding.

I overcompensated for living in England for nine months by going through a brief country music phase when I returned. It’s over now, but I still love Keith Urban! In general I think country songs tell much more interesting stories than the other tripe that’s on the radio today.
