Spotlight on Muse
I don’t have enough rock on my blog. I need more rock, like an amount comparable with what a glacier might pluck out of the ground on it’s relentless journey to reshape the landscape. Boulder size rock. Muse more than delivers on this, and I’ll explore a selection of their music over the next three days. Muse, a rock band from Devon, England are fronted by Matthew Bellamy. Bellamy has a great admiration for Classical music, and this is evident if you listen to any of Muse’s five current albums. Muse bring classical music to the rock crowd, but they don’t stop there. Bellamy’s falsetto voice and the band’s use of synthesized guitars/vocals create a space-rock dimension to their music that makes them a unique band to listen to. “Sunburn” is the lead of track on Muse’s debut album, “Showbiz”, released in 1999 and the perfect track to showcase their talent. Funnily enough, the UK music audience took a little time to recognie Muse’s awesomeness – their debut album peaked at number 29 on the album charts, and “Sunburn” reached number 22 on the singles chart. It wouldn’t be until 2003 that Muse topped the album charts with their third record, “Absolution”.
