Killer Rabbit of Caerbannog, from Monty Python and the Holy Grail is not a Frightened Rabbit
I always love discovering a new band that plays the kind of music I enjoy – and yesterday, it happened again. One of my buddies had this song listed in his LaLa music feed, the name of the band was worth clicking through to discover what the deal was. Thanks, Joe. “Frightened Rabbits” was initially a one-man-show – lead singer and guitarist Scott Hutchison used the stage-name “Frightened Rabbit” when he first started out performing solo gigs. His brother, and a third band member joined at later dates, pluralizing the band name.
The music that Frightened Rabbits brings to it’s audience is what I term as emotional folk-rock. Their second album, “The Midnight Organ Fight” is by far their best offering so far, and I am eagerly looking forward to their third album, which will be released next month. “Old Old Fashioned” is one of the more up-beat tracks from the album, and an early favorite of mine. “Frightened Rabbits” reminds me a lot of “The Avett Brothers” – they are not afraid of singing about heartbreak. What they do have different is their heavy Scottish accent – which could further enhance their musical careers come this Spring, after all, who doesn’t love an accent? Franz Ferdinand, Belle & Sabastian, The Fratellis and Travis – are we about to add another name to the list of well-known Scottish bands?
