The XX
The XX are a band on the rise, emerging from Southwest London, and categorized as dreamlike-Indie-Pop. The whispery trance-like songs on their debut album, “XX” are not really my cup of tea, they remind me of certain Moby songs, if played at half speed. But as I compile A Track A Day’s A-Z artist list, X has to be assigned to somebody, and I just couldn’t bring myself to blog about Glam/Metal Rock band called “XXX”. I do give The XX some credit though, their vocal work is pretty outstanding. Romy Madley Croft and Oliver Sim bounce lyrics off of each other throughout the album, and the melancholic and dark nature of the songs suits their singing style. This would probably be a very interesting band to see live – I have a good friend that lives for the up-and-coming London band scene (it was he who introduced me to The XX after a gig he went to) – but to see them live I would need the atmosphere to be perfect. A cool Autumn evening, a slight chill in the air, a blanket of fog rolling off of the Thames and smell of a wood fire in the air – that would set the mood, don’t you think? I would be interested to see where The XX will take their music to next, it seems that they have the potential to make more of a name for themselves.
