Eye of the Tiger
Of course, Survivor’s crowning glory was “The Eye of the Tiger”, and is most famously associated with Rocky III. The movie version of the song comes complete with tiger growls, which, thankfully, are not featured on the single or album versions. One extra item of useless information I uncovered is that the original lyric did not include ‘with the eye of the tiger’ at the end of the chorus… instead it was going to be the following:
“and the last known survivor stalks his prey in the night, and it all comes down to survival.”
(hence the presence of ‘rival’ in the preceding line to rhyme with ’survival’)
The title of the song was also going to be “survival”. Somehow “Survival” by “Survivor” doesn’t carry the same weight as “The Eye of the Tiger”, and I do not think we would have been hearing those distinctive beats on Rocky III. I wonder… Would we have been hearing Rocky III train to ‘Come on Eileen‘ (The song Eye of the tiger displaced off of number 1 spot in the UK Charts) had it not been for Survivor’s change of mind?
So, from one rooster to another (I was born in 1981), it is so long for now.
