Love some Binary

Binary Love – this track will fit very nicely on a geek’s compilation CD, along with “Code Monkey” (Jonathan Coluton) and “She Blinded Me With Science” (Thomas Dolby). Add in “Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots” by the Flaming Lips whilst you are at it. I could go on, but then you may think I actually already own this CD.

The Rakes – what sort of name is that for a band? I guess it beats some of the other choices made by other Indie bands – have we really exhausted the pool of band names that we now have to pick random words out of the dictionary in order to give your band a name. (Alternatively, you could click here and generate your own Indie band name – I came up with a good one, “Harlem Tea”.) Anyway, The Rakes released their debut album “Capture/Release” in 2005, and achieved instant success and praise. Four years and two further albums later, the band split up and went there separate ways, leaving the world with some pretty fun, energetic and compelling tunes. “Strasbourg” was my first song I heard by the band, as the song featured on the FIFA 2006 video game I used to play, all of five years ago.

“Can’t you just pretend That we are more than friends?
Despite the metal and wires I still have human desires

Dear computer, I have to shut you off now. It’s over, good bye.
