John lee Hooker: Boom Boom

I’m not a big listener of Blues music, but I do have a lot of respect for Blues artists. They were the foundation blocks of rock music, and without artists such as John Lee Hooker, Muddy Waters and B.B.King we may never have had rock bands such as The Rolling Stones or Led Zeppelin. So whenever possible, I will give the Blues some credit.

John Lee Hooker, born within a stone’s throw of the Mississppi river, was a unique blues singer. He developed his trademark talking-blues style of blues music, most closely related to Delta Blues. “Boom Boom” is one of his best known songs, released in 1962. The song is included in the list of The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll. I first became aware of John Lee Hooker through The Blues Brothers movie (1980), where he improvises his way through a live performance at Chicago’s Maxwell Street Market. Hooker also influenced the look of Jake Blues, played by John Belushi, with the dark sunglasses
