Here’s my attempt this Holiday season to give you a song that will annoyingly stay in your head for the remainder of the week. Sir Cliff Richard, born 1940, dominated the British music charts in the late 50’s and early 60’s, and then two things happened. The first was The Beatles. The second was that he converted to Christianity and softened his music. He remains a popular figure in the British music business, though never achieved a following in the US even though he has had at least one number one single (British Charts) in each decade since the 50’s through the 90’s – a considerable achievement that is only matched by Elvis Presley. Discounting digital downloads, he has even advanced this streak into the 2000’s. Mistletoe and Wine was Cliff’s 99th single, released in 1988 and became his 12th UK number one single.
