The Blues Brothers is my all-time favorite musical movie. I would even go so far as say that this is my all time favorite of all movies! The script is packed full of memorable quotes (”We’re on a mission from God”), and a star studded cast that includes Carie Fisher, James Brown, Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin, and of course Dan Akroyd and John Belushi playing Elwood and Jake Blues. The Blues Brothers originated on the popular TV show, Saturday Night Live in 1978 and soon found themselves breaking out of the confines of the TV show, releasing an album in 1978 and then eventually the movie in 1980. Sadly, John Belushi passed away in 1982 but the band still lives with a different members. A (rather bad) sequel to the film was released in 1998 (Blues Brothers 2000)
I also couldn’t refrain from posting my favorite scene from the movie – the Rawhide song, where the Blues Brother’s impersonated themselves as the “Good Ol’ Boy’s” to play a show in some hokey out of town country club. The whole movie is hilarious, and for anyone in the US of A with Encore, you can check it out today at 12:35PM and 11:00PM!
“That ain’t no Hank Williams song”…
