Santa Dylan

There has been much talk surrounding Bob Dylan’s 47th album release, and his first Christmas Record. Christmas From the Heart hit the stores back in September, but I waited until Advent before I listened to the album with my own ears. I had read multiple reviews, some praising Dylan for his traditionalism, and how the music takes you back to former days where the yuletide log burned through the long night. Others were less praiseworthy… critical of his rusty voice, which even I admit is a little strained on some of the album’s songs (e.g. ‘Hark the Herald Angels Sing’, ‘O’ Come All Ye Faithful’). My personal favorites on the album are ‘The Little Drummer Boy’, ‘Christmas Blues’ and ‘, which ‘Must Be Santa’.

Here, Bob is actually having more than a polka amount of fun, and you can feel the Christmas Spirit on every note the accordion rings out. The video for this song is also a treat – the link is below – as it portrays would could only be described as a Christmas Party gone wild at Bob’s house.

The greatest achievement of “A Christmas In The Heart” is that every royalty earned on the sales of the album will go towards Feeding America and other International Charities. As Bob writes on his website, “It’s a tragedy that more than 35 million people in this country alone — 12 million of those children — often go to bed hungry and wake up each morning unsure of where their next meal is coming from”.
