“What a life it would be
If you would come to mine for tea
I’ll pick you up at half past three
We’ll have lasagna”

In case you were wondering, it’s lasaaaaaaaaaagna. And, if I was serving lasagna and you weren’t invited round for dinner, you probably would be green with envy, because I make a pretty killer lasagna, the recipe follows below.

Although only a two and a half minute album filler for Oasis’ debut album, Definitely Maybe, this track is still pretty awesome for the genre of music it is representing. I’ve probably mentioned this before, but any other Oasis-wannabe band in the mid-late 90’s would probably base an entire career on a song that Oasis would consider B-side or album-filler material.

RECIPE (based off of the recipe on the back of a box of barilla no-cook lasagna noodles)

  • 1 (9 ounce) box of barilla no-boil lasagna noodles
  • 1 egg
  • 1 (15 ounce) container ricotta cheese
  • 3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup sliced mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup parmesan cheese
  • 1 lb sweet bulk Italian sausage (Gianelli brand)
  • 2 (27 ounce) jars spaghetti sauce (barilla baking sauce preferred, else marinara sauce)
  • 1/2 tablespoon dried basil

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 375.
  2. Brown Sausage. Add the spaghetti sauce (reserve about 4 cups)
  3. In bowl, combine beaten eggs, ricotta cheese, basil and three cups of shredded mozzarella cheese and Parmesan.
  4. In a 13X9X3 pan, spread 1 cup of sauce on bottom of pan.
  5. Place in the pan 4 uncooked lasagna noodles (they will overlap), then 1/2 of the sausage/sauce mixture
  6. Next layer, 4 lasagna noodles (orientated perpendicular to the first layer), then all the ricotta mixture
  7. Next layer, 4 lasagna noodles, remaining sausage/sauce mixture
  8. For top layer, 4 lasagna noodles, remaining sauce, and 1 cup of sliced mozzarella. Bake covered with foil for 50-60 minutes.
  9. Uncover and continue cooking until all the cheese is melted on the top and starting to bubble and brown (about 5 minutes).

Let stand 15 minutes before serving. Serve with a side salad.
