Although the video focuses on the exploits of a Mechanical Goalkeeper, I have some album liner notes that have a different origin to the lyrics: [Steve Fowler, Lead Singer] I wrote this walking the dog on the Grand Union Canal and yearns for a time before the roar of the M40 [highway].

This is the life isn’t it? Walking your dog along one of England’s historic waterways, taking your inspiration for your next mod-revival post britpop single from the English Countryside. The freshness and crispness of the country air fills my head whenever I listen to this song by Ocean Colour Scene. OCS were formed in the late 80’s, and started seeing success in the mid 90’s after being praised by Paul Weller [The Jam] and Noel Gallagher [Oasis]. They’ve had a loyal following ever since… I’m one of those followers, though my interest has waned of late with a couple of below-par albums.

If you want to hear more, I’d recommend their best of collection, “Songs for the Front Row” – this is a great introductory to the bands songs when they were at their peak. Yell at me if you want to follow up and delve into their albums!
