Gentleman Jim
Back in 1966, there was one man that kept “Yellow Submarine/ Eleanor Rigby” by The Beatles and “All Or Nothing” by The Small Faces out of the UK charts – this man was “Gentleman” Jim Reeves, a country singer from Texas who excelled in the Nashville country sound. He held on to the top spot for 5 weeks, it’s sucess in the charts pobably a reflection by the general public over the difficulties being faced by US troops in Vietnam.

Country Music: You either love it or hate it
I dislike country music in it’s entirety, I never listen to it, unless it’s by The Blues Brothers impersonating the Good Ol’ Boys. It’s so slow, so uneventful, so forgettable, I would rather be stuck in an elevator to nowhere than stuck in earshot of a country music station.
But, someone must be listening to it as it remains hugely popular, and has a deeper history than almost other genres of music – going back to the early twentieth century. If something is old, is it still worthy? Yes, I believe so, it’s like Marmite. You either love it, or you hate it.
