Betsy Wells live in Omaha
This unsigned folk-rock band from Omaha, Nebraska started following me on Twitter the other week. I followed them back, but only because being they promised a folk-rock sound that I’ve been craving lately. And Betsy Wells delivers amazingly well on this promise with a Dylan / Simon & Garfunkel / Byrds formula that has been copied many times over. They also have a free EP available online (read on for the link).
Download and play Into The Wind
Into The Wind is the title track of their debut EP, and starts off with an acoustic guitar rhythm plucked directly from “Mr. Tambourine Man”. Then the lyrics open out into a gentle harmony reminiscent of They Byrds version of “He Was a Friend Of Mine”.
But this is not 1965, the band members of Betsy Wells did not see the light of day for another three decades. It is very encouraging to listen to new music being recorded which is so stongly influenced by the masterful work released in the 60’s. I wish Betsy Wells every success for the future, and will be following this band from in the Twitter age from the comfort of my living room.
You like what you hear? Then go ahead and download Betsy Wells’ EP, Into The Wind, for free.
